ERP systems usually form the core of an information system in large companies. These are large-scale computer applications combining a number of smaller applications, which together are able to provide support for a wide range of business processes and needs. ERP systems have evolved considerably since their beginnings, so we can say that this category of enterprise applications has its own history. It all started with the so-called MRP and MRP II systems, which were later transformed into ERP systems. Originally, all ERP systems were intended only for large enterprises, but a special subcategory was created for small and medium-sized enterprises. This subcategory is called Lite ERP. The aim of this article is to briefly characterize the development of ERP systems from the beginning to modern systems. This is not a detailed analysis of specific software products, but rather a generalized analysis of basic trends and tendencies in the field of ERP.References
